Solutions Workshops
These hands-on skills development courses (“Solutions Workshops”) will be provided in association with other regional meetings to round out educational skills for our region’s agricultural health and safety advocates.
Anticipated topics include respirator fit testing, hearing protection fit testing, and gas monitor use. Additional workshops will be announced in Spring 2025, be sure to check back for more information!
Previous Workshops
November 6, 2024: Working with Media to Share Ag Health & Safety. This workshop was held in conjunction with the 2024 MRASH Conference in Ames, Iowa. Over 30 participants worked with media experts to discuss best practices and useful tools to engage with the media. Topics including establishing a relationship with journalists, press-releases, and tips to creating an engaging story were covered.
November 9, 2023: Emergency Preparedness at the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS). This was a post-conference workshop held in conjunction with the 2023 MRASH Conference in Peosta, Iowa. We introduced tools that can assist farmers and rangers in preparing for emergencies and discussed content areas that are still in need of development. November 15, 2022: Qualitative Respirator Fit Testing: Methods and Practice. The pre-conference workshop was held as a part of the 2022 MRASH Conference in Cedar Rapids, IA. This provided an interactive session for participants to develop hands-on skills to conduct qualitative respirator fit testing. As a direct result of this, the new Respirator Fit Test Guide for Agricultural Pesticide Handling was created.
November 8, 2021: Farm Safety App. In 2021, a national workshop was held as a pre-session of MRASH to demonstrate a new web-based app to collect data on safety hazards and injuries on the farm. This was part of the GPCAH surveillance research project. It included completion of a 60-minute video orienting users to the app followed by a live 90-minute session reviewing videos and applying the app in breakout sessions. 15 enrolled in the course; 10 completed the requirements to receive a certificate.
